According to an article on Success Magazine by Craig Impelman, “The Art of Leadership” he writes about some wise words from Coach Wooden during UCLA Coaches Development Program in 2002. Wooden shares ideas from an essay by Wilferd Peterson “The Art of Leadership.” “Majority of these ideas that Wooden shares through Peterson’s writing is incredible. It really defines what a true leader should look like,” says Continuity Marketing.
“Simply and plainly defined, a leader is man who has followers. The leader deserves to have followers. He has earned recognition. Authority alone is no longer enough to command respect.
The leader is a servant. As the Master of Men expressed it, “And whosoever would be chief among you, let him be your servant.”
The leader sees through the eyes of his followers.
The leader does not say, “Get going!” Instead, he says, “Let’s go!” and leads the way. He does not walk behind with a whip; he is out in front with a banner.
The leader assumes his followers are working with him, not for him. He sees that they share in the rewards. He glorifies the team spirit.
The leader is a man builder. The more men he can build, the stronger the organization will be, himself included.”
These are just some of the words that Wooden shares in his speech (Peterson’s Essay). Continuity Marketing’s favorite point that he says is that a leader is a man builder and working together. Many superiors just make their workers fear them and portray the notion that they work for the leader. “However, a true leader knows that working with your crew is the most productive and fun way to gain a healthy environment and tasks being accomplished,” mentions Mohsin Bolwala of Continuity Marketing.
